climb用作及物动词时，可接名词或代词作宾语，用作不及物动词时可接down、on、out of和up等，表示动作的方向。climb up本身已有“向上”的含义，所以climb up中的up有时可以省略。

如：In a few years he had climbed to the top of his profession.
