stand用作及物动词时，后可接名词、代词、动词不定式或动名词作宾语。作“请客”时还可以接双宾语，其间接宾语可转化成介词for的宾语，作“站着”时可接现在分词作状语，表示伴随状态，作“坚持”、“取某种态度”时可接动词不定式作结果状语。
1.站立；立；直立
如：She was too weak to stand.
她虚弱得站都站不住。
2.站起来；起立
如：We stood up in order to get a better view.
我们站起身来以便看得更清楚。
3.使直立；竖放；使站立
如：Stand the ladder up against the wall.
把梯子靠墙立好。
4.位于（某处）
如：An old oak tree once stood here.
以前这儿长着一棵老橡树。
5.（不用于进行时) 高度为；高达
如：The tower stands 30 metres high.
塔高30米。
6.停滞；不流动；放着不动
如：Mix the batter and let it stand for twenty minutes.
搅好面糊以后，放上二十分钟。
7.保持有效；维持不变
如：The world record stood for 20 years.
那项世界纪录20年未被打破。
8.（对某事）持某种态度，有某一观点，采取某种立场
如：Where do you stand on private education?
你对民办教育持什么观点？
9.（尤用于否定句和疑问句，强调不喜欢）容忍，忍受
如：I can't stand the sight of blood.
一看见血我就难受。
