sing既可用作及物动词，也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时，可接简单宾语、同源宾语，也可接双宾语，其间接宾语可以转化为介词for或to的宾语。sing还可接以动词不定式充当补足语的复合宾语，偶尔还可用作系动词,接形容词作表语。
1.唱（歌）；演唱
如：She usually sings in the shower.
她常常边冲澡边唱歌。
2.（鸟) 鸣；啼；啼啭
如：The birds were singing outside my window.
鸟儿在我窗外啼啭。
3.呜呜作响；发嗖嗖声
如：Bullets sang past my ears.
子弹嗖嗖地从我耳边飞过。
4.(尤指同一组织里的人)口径一致，意见一致
如：We should bring together the departments so that we're all singing from the same hymn sheet.
我们应该把各部门联合起来，这样我们就能意见一致了。
5.随着（某人、唱片等）唱
如：Do sing along if you know the words.
